Folic acid should never be given alone or in conjunction with inadequate amounts of cyanocobalamin for the treatment of pernicious anaemia. Though it produces a haemopoietic response, it fails to prevent the onset of subacute combined degeneration of the cord.
When administered by mouth, ferrous sulphate and other iron salts diminish the absorption of tetracyclines given concomitantly. Absorption of iron salts is decreased in the presence of antacids.
